On Building a Cooperative Communication System: Testbed Implementation and First Results

چکیده
In this paper, we present the results from over-the-air experiments of a complete implementation of an amplify and forward cooperative communications system. Our custom OFDM-based physical layer uses a distributed version of the Alamouti block code, where the relay sends one of the branches of Alamouti encoded symbols. First we show analytically and experimentally that amplify and forward protocols are unaffected by carrier frequency offsets at the relay. This result allows us to use a conventional Alamouti receiver without change for the distributed relay system, thereby allowing cooperative systems to reuse components of current (non-cooperative) systems. Our full system implementation shows gains up to 5.5dB in peak power constrained networks. Thus, we can conclusively state that even the simplest form of relaying can lead to significant gains in practical implementations.

Cooperative Coding Implementation at the Physical Layer
Cooperative communications leverages the spatial diversity available in a wireless environment when multiple radio nodes work together to improve the overall system performance. When a destination receiver combines the signal from an originating source with the associated signals from relay nodes, significant improvements in the bit error rate performance can be achieved. This paper details the...

Introduction: The picture archiving and communication system is a digital device designed for processing, archiving and communicating medical images with different parts of hospitals, physicians and radiologists. Therefore, the current study aimed to determine the impact of the system on users’ satisfaction with imaging services before and after its implementation. Methods: This cross-secti...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Wireless Cooperative Networks with Iterative Incremental Relay Selection
In this paper, an iterative incremental relay selection (IIRS) scheme is considered for wireless cooperative networks in order to increase the reliability of transmission. Different from the conventional incremental relay selection which incrementally selects a best relay for only one iteration; the IIRS scheme iteratively applies the incremental relaying and relay selection processes. To evalu...
متن کاملA Third Generation Micro-vehicle Testbed for Cooperative Control and Sensing Strategies
This paper describes the third generation of an economical cooperative control testbed, last described in (Leung et al., 2007). The new testbed vehicles are improved with powerful on-board computing, upgraded and expanded on-board sensing, and enhanced wireless communication, while maintaining economic feasibility and scale. The new hardware allows for increased autonomy of each vehicle and for...
متن کاملSum-Rate Maximization Based on Power Constraints for Cooperative AF Relay Networks
In this paper, our objective is maximizing total sum-rate subject to power constraints on total relay transmit power or individual relay powers, for amplify-and-forward single-antenna relay-based wireless communication networks. We derive a closed-form solution for the total power constraint optimization problem and show that the individual relay power constraints optimization problem is a quad...
